On June 27, 1897, the Bruton (sometimes spelled Brewton) and Pineora Railway Co. was incorporated. With a main line of 67 miles, the railroad extended from Statesboro to Bruton. Its forerunners were the Macon and Atlantic Railway Company and the Atlantic Short Line Railway Company, neither of which built any of the road.

The construction of the line was begun in 1898 and was completed by the Central in 1901. It was sold to the Central June 1, 1901.

Connecting with the Bruton and Pineora at Statesboro was the Dover and Statesboro Railroad, with a line extending to Central’s main line at Dover. This company was incorporated Jan. 25, 1889, and was sold to the Central June 1, 1901.

The tracks of this line from Metter to Bruton were taken up by the Central, and the railroad now operates from Dover to Metter.
