Description
This collection is a reprint of a passenger equipment diagram book which was issued by the Central of Georgia Railway around 1911. It includes line drawings and mechanical data for all of the passenger equipment on the railroad as of that date.
The diagrams in this book represent the end of the open-vestibule wooden passenger car era and the beginning of the era of all-steel cars. The last wooden cars purchased, as well as the first all-steel cars, are depicted. Also, of particular interest is the large number of wooden cars listed as having been built by the Central of Georgia (probably at the Savannah Shops). The advent of all-steel cars ended the construction of new cars in the Central’s own shop.
