The fall membership meeting of the Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society, Inc., has been scheduled for Friday–Saturday, October 23–24, 2015, in Savannah, Ga.
On Friday, we’ll have an archive work session beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Azalea Room at the Holiday Inn Express (see address below.) We’ll be working to clean, organize, and index maps and drawings from the Society’s collection. Members can stop by at any time during the day up until about 5:00 p.m. We’ll have all the supplies you’ll need to help.
At 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, Society president Allen Tuten will give a presentation titled “Central of Georgia Railway and Related Lines: Trackage, Facilities, and Industries in Savannah, Ga.” Our bus tour on Saturday afternoon will take us by many of the locations included in this presentation.
On Saturday, we’ll depart the Holiday Inn Express on a bus around 8:30 a.m. for an in-depth tour of the Georgia State Railroad Museum. We’ll also see the Society’s flat car, which is at the museum, along with other pieces of CofGa equipment.
After lunch, we’ll take a bus tour by a number of railroad related sites in the Savannah area and should return to the motel around 3:30 p.m. (Note that the exact itinerary is subject to change.)
At 4:00 p.m., we’ll have the annual meeting of the Society’s Board of Directors in the Azalea Room at the motel. Members are welcomed to attend, although the meeting is for discussion of various Society administrative business. At 7:00 p.m., following supper, we’ll have our annual business meeting, which will include elections for Board of Directors.
Following the business meeting, Terry Koller, Director of Railroad Operations at the Georgia State Railroad Museum will be giving a presentation on some of the museum’s activities.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express, 7210 Georgia Highway 21, Port Wentworth, GA 31407 (912-964-8900). The group rate is $99.00 per night. To get that rate, please be sure to mention that you are with the “Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society” when making reservations. The cut-off date for that rate is September 23, 2015.
Registration for the weekend’s events is $30 per person (or $50 per couple). To register, send your name, address, and number of registrations (include individual names for name tags) to Society Secretary/Treasurer Eddie Shaw (see address in recent issues of The Right Way). Payment can be made by check or money order payable to CGRHS. Early registration is highly recommended!
