Winter train schedules, better and faster than ever before, go into effect in January. The de luxe Floridian, through Albany, Columbus and Birmingham en route to and from Chicago and the West on its way to Florida, makes its first trip over our line on January 3. Anticipating a heavy travel to and from Florida this year it will be operated daily, instead of tri-weekly as in recent winter tourist seasons.
Notably faster schedules, particularly northbound, will be in effect this year. Schedule of the Floridian, for example, is one hour shorter between Miami and Birmingham than it was last season. This year it leaves Miami at 10 P.M., one-half hour later than last year, and reaches Birmingham 5:35 P.M., or one half hour earlier than last year, a net gain of one hour. The Seminole, northbound over the same route, is 2 hours and 45 minutes faster from Jacksonville to Birmingham. Leaving Jacksonville at 11:55 P.M., it reaches Birmingham at 11:50 A.M., whereas formerly it left Jacksonville at 8:40 P.M., to reach Birmingham at 11:20 A.M. The "New Southland" (as the old reliable Southland is now termed) now takes one hour les than formerly from St. Petersburg to Atlanta. Leaving St. Petersburg at 3 P.M. reaching Atlanta at 6:40 A.M. Southbound the "New Southland" is one hour and twenty-five minutes faster, now leaving Atlanta at 6:40 P.M. arriving St. Petersburg 8:30 P.M. With faster schedules, improved equipment and a severe winter with us all ready the indications are that there will be a good travel to Florida via the railroads, and all of us can recommend not only the trains mentioned, but our other Florida trains -- the Dixie Flyer, the Flamingo and the new Atlanta-Jacksonville Southland Express.
