Estimated Delivery: December 2002/January 2003 Atlas Model Railroad Company, Inc. today posted pre-production photographs of its N scale models of Fairbanks-Morse H-15-44 and H-16-44 locomotives on its Web site. Three of the H-15-44 units are painted in the original blue, gray and orange CofGa paint scheme. The Central units will be No. 101, No. 104 and a unit without a number. The CGRHS contributed technical information regarding Central H-15-44 locomotives to Atlas. For more information see Atlas Announces CG N H-15-44 on the CGRHS Web site. The H-15-44 locomotive was also called the ALT 200.2A. This Fairbanks-Morse intermediate-power road switcher and the similar H-16-44 were produced from 1947 to 1963. In the name H-15-44, '15' indicates 1500 hp and '44' indicates two four-axle trucks. Central of Georgia owned five of these distinctive diesels, numbers 101 through 105, builder's numbers 15-L-30 through 15-L-34. They were built in 1949. The Central did not own any H-16-44 units, but in 1953 did buy four 1200 horsepower H-12-44 locomotives from Fairbanks-Morse. See the Central Diesel Roster for more details. Some details of the Atlas locomotives include new bi-directional read and green LED marker lamps that work in DCC and analog mode, improved slower speed motor for closer to scale speeds and directional classification lights. These units will come in two versions: Decoder-equipped (Lenz) or non-decoder-equipped with PC board designed for easy conversion to DCC in the future if desired.
